Description
S/S Herakles was the first Finnish boat to arrive in South America after the war. On board were Elis Åkerlund, Olof Fagerlund, Thure Aaltonen and Clementz Mattsson. Picked up the notorious coffee cargo, 2400 tons of garbage, the worst coffee available.

Finland had no currency to pay with. The commander was Gunnar Möller, Pargas. When we left Cap Verde after bunkering, a stowaway, Antonio da Silvalima, was discovered. On arrival in Rio, he ended up in the calaboose, where he sat until we left South America. The sailor had dropped out in Bahia and Antonio was put in charge of the sailor´s job. On arrival in Turku, he was received like a king, with visits from the Spanish consul etc. The Turku women were honored, both young and old were about to take Antonio down.
