Axel Granlund

Description

Axel Granlund attended the navigation school in Mariehamn for 1 year and sailed as mate on a sailing ship in the G.E. (Gustaf Eriksson) fleet.
It has been told, that Axel ran away to Australia but came back from there after 2 years.
According to this story, Axel was the only one that G.E. brought back after an escape.

However, this is not true! 1st mate Axel Granlund's diary: 4-m bark HOUGOMONT, 20 months 9 days.
It was during this voyage that Axel was landed in Australia.
According to his resume: As first mate on the 4-masted barque Hougomont from July 5, 1927 to March 15, 1929.

Thereafter served on special small vessels in Australia for two years.
According to the muster roll, Axel signed off under contract at Port Lincoln on the above date.
According to the freighter book, he also signed off the ship in Port Lincoln in accordance with the law.

Axel Granlund embarked quite safely on board the FAVELL after his 2 years in Australia to return to Finland.
FAVELL departed 06.02.1931 Wallaroo to Falmouth f.o. in wheat cargo, 2196 tons = 27462 bags,
arrived 28.05.1931 Cork, departed 20.06.1931 Queenstown, arrived 07.07.1931 Helsinki.

Axel Granlund was from Svinö. Married Linda Johansson from Losskär, built his own house in Kivimo strait and moved there with Axel's parents, the Svinö part he sold to Konstantin Öhman.
