Description

Medelby eastern note team.
The net up from the icehole.
Two men per upper part, two per lower part, a total of eight men manage this large fishing gear.
When the seine is played under the ice, this is done with horses, in later times with tractors.
A horse is seen in the background, pausing between its various tasks. When the seine has been emptied of its catch and loaded onto the sledge, it must be "snowed down", i.e. covered with snow so that it does not solidify into a single large lump of ice. This is done at a suitable beach where there are large snowdrifts.
The catch must still be transported ashore, unless the fish buyer, the "porvare", comes out after it to the net.

Miscellaneous
