Description

The inside of a schooner hull on one of the 8 stacking beds at LATE's shipyard in Pansio.
The picture clearly shows the prefabricated glulam frames and deck beams.
The use of glulam meant that there were no specific requirements for the timber, as normal sawn timber was used.
The frames, keel, frames and deck beams were glued in jigs, which meant that the corresponding parts in all hulls were exactly the same.
There were also many working machines to minimize the actual manual work. More and more material was moved by machine using cranes. There were also cleaners in the hall, who kept the construction area clean from shavings and other waste.

There was no such thing at the other war reparations shipyards; at Hollming, for example, all the work was done manually, with master shipbuilders from Björkö (Koivisto) designing the ships and supervising the work.
