He lived for 65 years at Ekåsen Hospital, where he looked after the large garden.
There were also others who worked there, but he was the foreman.
He is said to have spoken a strange dialect that people did not want to understand, probably the Houtskär dialect.

Further back in time, the hospital had its own pigs, which he took care of; he was called the "pig farmer".
Once the fire broke out in the pig house, the others ran in and hid, but Mauritz stayed and saved the pigs.
