Description

GRACE HARWAR Steel full rigger, built by W. Hamilton & Co. Hamilton & Co. in Port Glasgow 1889. 1749 net, 1816 gross register tons, 266.7 x 39 x 23.5 feet, according to Finnish measurements: 84.30 x 11.64 x 7.09 m. Built for W. Montgomery in London. Purchased in 1903 for Helsinki, Rederi Ab Delfin with G. Stenius as main partner. Stenius as the main partner. The master was Captain C.V. Nygrén. After a serious accident during a cyclone in Mobile, Alabama, where she drifted ashore, the ship was sold to Gustaf Erikson in Mariehamn. The masters during the time in Mariehamn were Julius Eriksson, Anders Donner, K.V. Lindqvist, M.A. Gustafsson, K.G. Svensson, Gunnar Boman and Gustav Holm. She became Finland's last full-rigger in the freight trade. After arriving in London on 05.07.1935, GRACE HARWAR was sold for scrapping to Charlestown at the Firth of Forth, where she arrived under tow on 19.07.1935.
