Gold mining community on the Niukluk River and Council City. Brothers Bernt August (Ben) and Axel Alexej Westerlund both traveled to America. "Ben" in 1890 and the brother in 1895 (ran away, according to the church records). The brothers' photographic material from Alaska probably covers the years 1898-1901 since "Ben" returned home in 1902 and Axel in 1905. BW b.5.11.1868 d.27.11.1919. AW b.15.7.1871. d.28.3.1951. Both buried in Houtskär. AW traveled again to America in 1925, was home and returned in 1926, returned and came home only in 1946.
