S/S Wellamo (I), 1898 - 1916: It was the same ship, the same Wellamo, that was sunk in 1916 by the German U 47 on a voyage from Sundsvall to Yxpila with passengers, and where Villiam Karlsson from Saverkeit was involved in the disaster. After the passengers and crew abandoned the ship, it was sunk with cannon fire by the submarine 9 miles NW of Tankar lighthouse. The image/negative 3288 shows the ship being painted and is a clear, fine image.
