Bo started as an apprentice at Wärtsilä in Turku.
He trained as a technician at the Technical School in Helsinki, and at the same time studied to become a Chief Engineer at Turun Teknillinen Oppilaitos.
He remained faithful to Wärtsilä for most of his career. He flew around the world and warranty-serviced their diesel engines.
