Description
Two people in a boat.
The boat is probably a rowing boat, the bow is unfortunately not visible, but the planking rises so much towards the bow that it suggests a rowing boat.
Rigged with an unstayed mast and spray sail without a boom.
This was so that the mast could easily be taken down and the sail rolled around it, leaving more room for other activities, such as fishing.
Such a sailboat had no rudder, it was steered by an extra, shorter oar, which could be easily moved from side to side.
The man in the boat is apparently trying to teach the lady how to use the oar!
