Place

Picture taken from Såglot on the Roslax side of the strait.

Description

Kivimo ferry, ferryman's house and sauna. The site was put into use in 1962.
"Hästberget" is the name of the place on the Kivimo side, where the ferry between Kivimo and Roslax is located.
In ancient times, cattle were brought on board in boats from the then suitable mountain, hence the name.
To the small jetty to the right of the ferry, Bjenstrand brought the milk jars by boat during the years 1961-65, the jars were then carried out on the ferry and the milk drivers from Björkö took them to Träsk, for further transportation to Turku with Manne Mattsson's car.
This was before they had built a road to Bjenstrand.
In the picture one of the first ferries, which was pulled by two wires.
Note also that the ferryman's barrack is missing.
