Kyrkslätt railway station. Here they have been quick to get the station sign in both national languages, the Russian-language sign was apparently hastily taken down! In the background you see the portal, which comes in the next picture, with only Cyrillic text. However, this was not seen from the station side.
The part of the railroad, which went over the Soviet area, was a secret military area during the Porkkala parntheses. Known as the world's longest railway tunnel, the trains stopped before the border crossing in Täkter or Köklax, whereby iron shutters were placed over the windows of the train cars under great pressure. Armed guards were posted in each carriage and the locomotives were changed from Finnish to Soviet. There was an absolute ban on photography during the journey! At the next border crossing in Köklax or Täkter the procedure was reversed. This procedure was a rather traumatizing element of the railway journey between Turku and Helsinki, the experience was terrible for young people and children, must have been even worse for our war veterans!
