Description

When Porkkala was returned to Finland on January 26, 1956, the area was taken over by the Finnish Army to secure the area.
Soldiers from the Dragsvik regiment also came to Porkkala.
Birger Rönnsjö did his military service at this time and was among those who were ordered to the Porkkala area.
In the same company there were also several Houtskär residents who also came to Porkkala.
Birger unfortunately did not have his camera with him, it was at home on Losskär in Houtskär.
He wrote a letter home and requested that the camera be sent to him.
The letter went from Porkkala by military mail to the garrison in Dragsvik, from there it was sent by regular mail to Houtskär.
Birger's parents then mailed the camera to Dragsvik, they knew of no other address, from there the camera was forwarded to Birger in Porkkala.
Because of Birger's interest in photography, we can today view these unique pictures from the environments on Porkkala headland.
Birger has also given copies of the pictures to the Porkkala Museum "Igor" in Kirkkonummi.
