Lassas backen. Picture taken from Lassas Kvarnberg
Date
--.--.1930 - --.--.1935
Description
The picture shows the so-called "Karlsson's" house and behind it the roof of the Lassas farm building. Anton Karlsson, once a farmer at Lassas, lived in the house until his death in 1939. Anton was a traveling preacher for the Åland Missionary Society. He was employed there in 1900. Anton sold Lassas to Alfred Mattsson in 1914.
The house had two kitchens, one at each end. One of the kitchens was rented out to others. Anton's mother lived in a room at the gable of the outbuilding shown in the picture. Below Kvarnberget you can see the roof of the smoke sauna. In the background is the municipal building, built in 1928-29. The midsummer pole is visible. "Karlssons" was demolished by Gunnar Mattsson in 1964. Anton's estate was inherited by the association. Alfred bought the house from the association for 5 000 mk.
