Married to Alma Pettersson from Larses in Kittuis.
At the turn of the century 1900 he was with his brother Axel in Alaska on the Seward Peninsula and dug gold. He built a large "American villa" at Ravels in Näsby in the early 1900s. Houtskärs Sparbank was located there since the early 1940s. The house burned to the ground on Saturday, September 18, 1948.
