Description

PAMPA Steel full rigger, built in 1891 by A.G. Neptun in Rostock for the famous Hamburg company F. Laeisz. Neptun in Rostock for the famous Hamburg firm of F. Laeisz. Like the other ships of the company, she was intended for the saltpetre trade on the west coast of South America. 1676 net, 1777 gross register tons, 259.5 x 40.0 x 22.2 feet, 2600 TDW. Best voyage under the German flag: Lizard - Valparaiso in 61 days. Purchased by Rederi Ab Aura on 02.05.1913 for £ 6,500. Master was W.K. Jansén, A.J. Henriksson, U.A. Andersson. Lost the rig on 14.04.1922 off the Scilly Islands on a voyage from London to Sabine in Texas. Managed to anchor, before she drifted ashore. Taken under tow by the English s/s TUSCARORA, which on 18 April brought her to Plymouth. Handed over to the salvors, who sold her to Blankensee for £1,500. Soon thereafter to Sunderland for scrapping.
