The interesting and lavish house was built by August Westerlund, later called Ben, after his return from America, where he had been engaged in "gold digging". August Berndt (Ben) was married to Alma Augusta Matilda Pettersson from Larses in Kittuis. The house housed for some time Houtskär's inn and later Houtskär's savings bank. The house burned down to the ground on September 18, 1948.
