Description
Houtskär got ferry connections in 1961, the first ferry was called "Houtskär". The ferry was bought to Finland from Sweden in 1960, then named FÄRJA 61/54 and renamed "Reserv 1". The vessel was equipped with a 288 hp. steam engine. The traffic started under this name, in 1962 the ferry was modernized to a motor vessel, 420 hp and at the same time got the name "Houtskär". The dimensions were: length 27 m and width 7,3 m.

Traffic had already started on December 15, 1960 with the ferry "Korpo" between Pärnäs in Nagu and Kittuis, as the ferry landing in Galtby was not ready. The historical date is thus 15.12.1960.
